Raipur, Oct 31 (IANS) Two Maoists were killed and several others injured early Tuesday after a hideout in a forested stretch of southern Chhattisgarh was raided, police said.

“Two rebels were shot dead and many others sustained bullet wounds in a pre-dawn battle in Narayanpur area in Bastar region as police opened fire on a hideout,” a senior police officer told IANS over telephone.

“We suspect the casualties in the enemy camp are higher as blood was found across the gun battle site, but we recovered only two bullet-ridden bodies,” the officer added.

Chhattisgarh is the worst Maoist insurgency hit Indian state and officials admit that 374 persons, including 298 civilians, have been killed in Maoist violence till September.
